FriDevPrivacy
Privacy by architecture

The shortest privacy
policy you've ever read.

We collect nothing. We send nothing. We have no servers. The whole document below is just us explaining that in slightly more detail.

The honest version

The strongest privacy story is no upload at all.

Our apps run on the device you already own. The thing you'd normally call "the backend" doesn't exist on our end. There is no dashboard somewhere with your audio waveforms on it. There is no analytics tool counting how many times you clicked. There is no email list to leak. We architected it out, not opted out.

On-device

What our apps do on your device.

Transcription, alignment, edits, and exports all run locally on your Mac, iPhone, or iPad. FriCut uses Apple's on-device SpeechAnalyzer framework for transcription and a bundled Core ML wav2vec2 model for tighter word-level alignment. Your media is never uploaded to us, to Apple, to OpenAI, to Google, or to any other service.

Project data, transcripts, edit decisions, and references to your source video, is stored in the app's own private container using Apple's SwiftData. Imported videos are copied into that container so your projects keep working even after the picker URL the OS handed us expires.

What we collect

Nothing. Truly.

There are no analytics, no crash reporters, no telemetry, no advertising identifiers, and no third-party SDKs in our apps. We don't know when you opened the app, how long you used it, what you transcribed, what you cut, or whether you liked it. If you want us to know, you have to email us.

Permissions

What the OS prompt will ask for, and why.

  • Speech Recognition. Required so the on-device dictation model can load. We do not use Apple's cloud speech recognition path.
  • Photo Library. Required only if you import a video through the Photos picker. The picker is sandboxed by iOS, FriCut only sees the specific video you tap on.
  • User-selected file read/write (macOS). Required so the "Save to Files…" panel can write your exported video to the location you pick. We don't get blanket disk access.

Network

When the app touches the internet.

During normal use, it doesn't. FriCut does not make network requests as part of editing or exporting.

The on-device speech model may be downloaded from Apple's system servers the first time you transcribe in a new locale. That is handled by iOS / macOS itself, not by us, using the same mechanism that Voice Memos and Notes use.

Deleting your data

The whole policy in one button.

All FriCut data lives inside the app's own container. Deleting the app deletes every byte we ever stored about you, because there's nothing stored anywhere else.

Payments

How purchases work.

Purchases are handled by Apple's App Store. We never see your credit card, name, address, or Apple ID. Apple gives us an anonymous receipt that says "yes, this person has an active subscription" or "yes, this person bought lifetime." That's it.

Children

Built for everyone, kids included.

Our apps are rated 4+ on the App Store. We don't knowingly collect any data from anyone of any age, because we don't collect any data at all.

Changes

If this ever changes.

We'll update the date at the top of this page and, for material changes (e.g. if we ever add a feature that genuinely needs network access), we'll surface it inside the app before enabling it. Our principles don't move; if they ever do, we owe you an explanation, not a footnote.

Contact

A human reads every email.

Questions, concerns, or curious about how the on-device model works? Reach out, this is a one-person shop, so the human who built the app is the human who answers.
